Arise

Watercolor, ink and gold leaf. My intention with this series of artworks was to explore the spirit world of Japanese folklore, the death poems of the Samurai and the Yōkai - a class of supernatural monsters, spirits, and demons. These beings exist in an afterlife. Their intentions are not known; whether they be malevolent, mischievous or if to cross their path is fortuitous.
